Please read these subscription competition rules carefully as they constitute a legal agreement between you and the Promoter regarding your participation in this competition. By participating in this competition, you acknowledge that you have read, understood and agree to be legally bound by these terms and conditions, which are subject to the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 and its regulations.

Prize sponsor:The Sponsor is Chery South Africa
Nature of the subscription competition:This is a subscription-based promotional competition as defined in Section 36 of the Consumer Protection Act. Entry requires subscription to one of The Citizen’s subscription offers, detailed under “How to enter” below. This competition does not constitute gambling as defined in the National Gambling Act 7 of 2004.
Entries open and close:Entries open on 01 September 2025 at 00:00 am   Entries close 21 November 2025 at 11:59 pm
The prize:Chery Tiggo Cross HEV Elite* There will be a total of one (1) winner selectedSelection will be by random draw   *Product images depicting the prize are for illustrative purposes only. The Promoters shall solely determine the specifications and colour of the vehicle to be won and the Promoters’ decision is final.
Winner announced on:The winner of the Chery Tiggo Cross HEV Elite will be announced in December 2025
Eligibility: To qualify for the prize, the individual needs to:In order for the winner to claim the prize (Chery Tiggo Cross HEV Elite), you will be required to:   Produce and hold a valid South African driver’s licenceProduce proof that you resident in South Africa (the Promoters will not be held responsible for cross border export of the vehicle)Provide your own insurance for the vehicle
Who cannot take part?The following persons may not take part in this subscription competition even if they qualify to take part. They will forfeit (give up) the prize awarded to them: Any employee of the promoter(s)Any director, member, partner, agent of, or consultant of the promoter(s)Any other person who directly or indirectly controls the promoter(s)Any supplier of goods and services in connection with this subscription competitionThe spouse, life partner, siblings, children or parents of any of the persons named in a, b, c or d above   Even if the aforesaid disqualified persons participate in the subscription competition or is subsequently disqualified, these subscription competition rules will continue to apply between the disqualified persons and The Citizen.
How to enter:To qualify for the prize, which will be awarded at the end of the subscription competition, you have to take out a Citizen subscription. There are three (3) subscription options: 12-month subscription to The Citizen print edition: you get ten (10) entries into the competition*12-month subscription to The Citizen e-edition: you get three (3) entries into the competition*Free Citizen newsletter subscription: you get one (1) entry into the competition
Is there a limit on the number of times you can enter?Participants can subscribe to any (or all) of the subscription options. Subscriptions are for 12 months and no refunds will be made should you cancel your subscription before the end of the 12 months.
How will winners be chosen?All eligible participant subscriptions will be entered into a random draw conducted under the supervision of an independent auditor or attorney. The winner of the subscription competition will be selected from that random draw in accordance with Section 36(3)(a) of the Consumer Protection Act.
How will the winner’s name be announced?The winner will be contacted through direct communication from The Citizen.
Claiming the prize:The handover of the prize will happen during December 2025 the Sponsor’s flagship dealership in Northcliff, Gauteng.   *Exact date to be confirmed by the Sponsor.
 
TERMS & CONDITIONS SPECIFIC TO THE PRIZE   The prize does not include the cost of travel, accommodation, spending money or food,  in order to accept and take delivery of the prizeThe prize does not include servicing and maintenance of the vehicle, fuel, or any additional enhancements to the vehicle after the prize has been awardedThe Citizen makes no warranties or representations as to the vehicle’s technical specifications, it being fit-for-purpose, or manufacturer warrantyYou may be responsible to obtain and pay for certain licences necessary to use the prize. Such additional items/costs are not included as part of the prizeYou will be requested to produce both your Smart ID Card/ID Book and valid Driver’s LicenceYou will be required to provide all necessary information and documentation required for the registration of the vehicleVehicle warranty, technical details and service plan will be explained to you by a representative from the manufacturer/dealerUpon acceptance of the prize by you, all risk in and to the vehicle transfers to you and the Promoter accepts no liability for any loss, damage or theft of the prize or any requirements or additional costs associated with the prize
TAX IMPLICATIONS   You are fully responsible for any tax implications arising from or associated with the receipt or transfer of the prize, including but not limited to income tax and donations tax as may be applicable under the Income Tax Act 58 of 1962. The value of the prize may be subject to taxation and we strongly recommend that you obtain independent professional tax advice regarding any tax implications arising from the receipt of the prize.
