Relief aid for fire victims
Greenwood Park SAPS coordinated relief aid for residents affected by the fire in the Mtambos informal settlement.

GREENWOOD Park Police Station has coordinated some massive relief aid for the victims of the Mtambos informal settlement after a fire ravaged through the community, killing Billy Sozoyi, recently.
Through the police station’s effort, non-profit organisations such as Food for Life, Durban North uMhlanga Crisis Team and Red Cross offered food to those left homeless by the fire.
The crisis team also offered trauma counselling to the residents.
According to the police station’s communication officer, Lt Elvis Naidoo, about 800 people were left homeless.
“We sincerely hope eThekwini Municipality can find these people a new home. The property has also been fenced off by the owner, so these residents currently have nowhere to go,” he added.
Naidoo appealed for donations of food, clothes (for men, women, children and babies), blankets, shoes, baby food, utensils and various other household essentials to help the residents back on their feet.
“We urge residents and businesses to provide goods to those affected,” Naidoo said.
Donations can be dropped off at Glenashley Wimpy in Ashley Avenue and at Greenwood Park Police Station.
