According to Lt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North station, both robberies involved large groups of armed men. “In the first incident in Armstrong Avenue, the security guard on duty was confronted by five armed men all wearing balaclavas. He noticed a sixth suspect in a white nissan parked outside the business premises. The security guard was ordered to lie face down, while a suspect with a crowbar forcefully broke the front door. A cash register, R1 300 and a moniter was stolen,” Deokaran said.
In the second business robbery on 23 October, six suspects, all armed, arrived in a silver VW Polo held the guard up at the gate, while the rest of the suspects went inside to rob the staff. A number of cell phones and cash was taken.
