THE Durban North Donor Centre at Kensington Square has called on residents to support its blood drives on Thursday, 18 July. Dennis Ngongoma of the South African National Blood Service (SANBS) said blood stocks across the province are low due to flu season.
“We are hoping the community supports our Mandela Day blood drives and we are urging residents of North Durban and the surrounding areas to roll up their sleeves on the day and give blood. Our aim for the day is to collect 100 units of blood.

“The school holidays also caused a dip in the current stocks level. We will be hosting a drive at the Durban North Donor Centre at Kensington Square between 8.30am to 4.30pm which we hope residents will support. In the past we’ve had great support for our Madiba Day blood drives. Your donation could save lives,” he said.
Ngongoma also urged residents who are attending Madiba Day activities at Grace Family Church in uMhlanga to also support the blood drive at the church.
“Some of our members will be present at Grace Family Church and the blood drive will run from 9am to 3pm on the day,” he said.
