Lights, camera, action
The doors of the Westville Theatre Club swing open for auditions for their upcoming original musical, Hello, Your Future Calls, written and directed by Maya Olsen, with musical direction by Shawn O’Neill.
Performers need only attend one session, but they must come prepared with a solo song or dance piece. Auditions take place on Sunday, March 1, from 11:30 to 13:00 and Monday, March 2, at 18:00. The production is open to all, with vocalists needed for solos and ensemble roles, dancers, a pianist or bassist, and backstage as well as lighting and sound crew.
Rehearsals are set for Mondays and Wednesdays from 18:30 to 20:30, and Sundays from 11:30 to 13:30, leading up to performances scheduled for May 21–24 and 28–31. It is a non-paying production, and commitment to rehearsals and show dates is essential. For more information, Maya Olsen can be reached on 079 501 8943.

Laugh out loud
South African comedy legend Mark Banks returns to Durban with his new one-man show, Laughter is on the Menu, opening the brand new Nutcracker Theatre at Macnut Farm in Assagay for a one-weekend run from February 27 until March 1. A favourite with KZN audiences, Banks takes to the stage in the intimate 60-seater theatre, a space dressed in sparkling chandeliers, lush velvet curtains, fairy lights and a cosy vintage retro ambience.
The Nutcracker Theatre brings back the nostalgia of supper-theatre, pairing the performance with a meal. Tickets are R495 per person, including supper and show, with a full bar available on-site. The venue is at Macnut Farm, 13 Lello Road, Assagay, down the road from Heidi’s Farm Stall. The show carries an age restriction of no under 16s, and tickets are limited to 60 per performance. Bookings can be made with Hannah on 074 603 0000.
Show times are Friday, February 27 at 18:00 for a 19:30 show; Saturday, February 28 at 17:00 for 18:30; and Sunday, March 1 at 12:30 for 14:00.

Walk the walk
As the sun rises, and sometimes to the call of hadedas, residents of Durban North and beyond gather along Adelaide Tambo Drive near The Domino Foundation. A growing group of walkers, from gentle amblers to brisk striders, take to the pavement on a New Year’s mission to build #Health, #Hope and #Happiness. This Term One activation is a collaboration between The Domino Foundation and HelpMe, a community security app providing safety, community and support services. Walks take place every Tuesday between 06:00 and 08:00 through to March 24.

Shop till you drop
The 031 Market comes alive at Northwood Crusaders on Friday, February 27 from 17:00 with more than 90 stalls. Visitors wander from vendor to vendor, discovering delicious food, handmade products, and organic and locally sourced artisanal produce. Live music fills the air from 17:00 to 21:00 as families settle in, children head to the kiddies’ zone and the field, and friends claim their seats for the night market atmosphere. The market takes place on the last Friday of every month. Entrance is free, parking is R10 per car, and fur-babies on leads are welcome.
Rock it and roll it
From the thunder of Def Leppard and AC/DC to the soaring harmonies of Heart, the anthemic power of Queen, and the pop-rock magic of Roxette, it’s all happening at the Big Top Rock at Suncoast Casino. Along the way, you’ll meet legends like Elvis Presley, Pink, Michael Jackson, Adele, Billie Eilish, Benson Boone, and more — each hit reimagined with the raw energy of a live Barnyard band and powerhouse vocalists.
