Greenwood Park resident and intruder tussle after attempted break-in
The suspect pushed his way through the gate when the homeowner went outside to check where the noises were coming from.
A BRAVE man, who decided he was not going to let a burglar get away with breaking into his Greenwood Park home, apprehended and detained the intruder until help arrived.
The scene played out in Tweed Road just before 18:00 when his mother heard noises outside and went to investigate.
She then spotted the suspect in the yard, and a scuffle broke out between the two. The man then intervened, overpowering the suspect and kept him detained until Swift Private Security arrived.

“We received multiple urgent calls and messages about a suspect attempting to break into the property. Our control centre promptly dispatched vehicles to the location,” said Sanveer Sooklall, Swift Private Security spokesperson.
“Upon arrival, the resident informed us that they had heard noises in the front yard. After investigating, they spotted a suspect in the yard. The resident sustained minor injuries to her hand while trying to close the gate as the suspect attempted to push his way in. She declined medical assistance, assuring us that she was fine,” said Sooklall.
Swift Security officers interviewed the suspect, who claimed he was from Mozambique and currently residing in town.
“He said a friend had dropped him off in the Greenwood Park area earlier that evening but could not provide a clear indication why,” added Sooklall.
Greenwood Park SAPS attended the scene and transported the suspect to the police station. The resident indicated that a case will be registered following the incident.
