Christmas tree sales to kick off soon in Durban North
Umhlanga Round Table Christmas tree sales start next week. The community is encouraged to support this charitable initiative.
THE long-running uMhlanga Round Table No 155 annual Christmas tree sale begins on November 28 at Northwood Crusaders Sports Club bowling green, with all proceeds going back into community projects.

The fundraiser, which has been held for more than 66 years, is co-ordinated by Adrian Pretorius, who says it remains the organisation’s longest-running effort.
Pretorius told Northglen News that trees will be on sale on weekdays from 08:00 to 18:00until 13.00 on December 22.
“It’s such a magical and fun time for families. We have numerous repeat customers who make it an adventure shopping for the perfect tree. For many it’s also a family tradition where the children come dressed in Christmas gear and run through the field to choose their favourite tree. People love it,” he said.
The stock is sourced locally from Overdale Nursery in Kloof/Gillitts, and the uMhlanga Round Table works in partnership with the Magic Bean Foundation, which sells upcycled decorations, puppets and other items to support its own community projects at the site.
“There are crafters from Magic Bean Foundation on site every day to sell upcycled decorations and bucket covers to suit your taste. They even do custom-made items. Once Christmas is over the bucket can be used as a washing basket or storage or even as a plant holder. We also have skirts that fit around the buckets for people to buy,” he added.
According to Pretorius, after covering costs the Christmas tree drive raises around R250 000 annually — making it one of the Round Table’s most successful fundraisers.
“The proceeds go towards funding Umhlanga Round Table’s many charitable endeavours which mainly involve children,” said Pretorius.
Tree prices start from R300 for 1.2m. For more information and prices and sizes contact Pretorius on 082 617 1306.
