Durban North NPO creates freedom through art
Partnering with a store would allow the jewellery to move more quickly, increasing both income for the programme and opportunities for the women behind each handcrafted item.
OVER a decade ago, The Domino Foundation’s Red Light programme launched the first Create Freedom jewellery range, giving survivors of human trafficking the opportunity to learn a skill while rebuilding their lives.
Through the years, Create Freedom has grown into a sustainable business, transforming handcrafted pieces into symbols of hope, healing and new beginnings.
Each purchase directly supports the programme, helping women continue their journey towards independence and dignity. At the heart of the programme is mentorship, developing both practical skills and self-confidence.

By the time beneficiaries complete the programme, they are equipped to step into the workplace able to earn a living in a way that protects their integrity and self-worth.
This belief is what gave birth to Create Freedom. Esther Madikane of The Domino Foundation explains that each woman follows an individual development plan, learning not only how to craft jewellery, but also how to commit to goals and work consistently towards them.
“The main focus is beneficiary development. The jewellery making not only equips the ladies with a skill, it’s also therapeutic,” she said.
“Create Freedom teaches responsibility, perseverance and belief in what’s possible.”

Perfectly timed for Valentine’s Day, the Create Freedom range includes heart-inspired earrings, necklaces, brooches, keyrings and magnets.
In addition to encouraging personal and corporate Valentine’s gifting, The Domino Foundation is also seeking a retail partner to stock the Create Freedom range.
“Bracelets have now been added to the range and we would like for a clothing boutique to come on board and sock the range in store. Business owners are welcome to put a mark-up on it,” she added.
Bulk order for corporates and events are also welcome.
The turnaround time is four weeks. For Valentine’s gifts, corporate orders, or enquiries from retailers interested in stocking the range, contact Esther Madikane on 031 110 0730.
