City begins stadia maintenance programmes

The maintenance programme has been carefully scheduled during the winter period, which coincides with the soccer off-season

THE eThekwini Municipality’s annual winter maintenance programme began last week at selected stadiums across the City.

This is to ensure the playing surfaces remain in optimal condition. Included in that programme are the Moses Mabhida Stadium, Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium, King Zwelithini Stadium and the Chatsworth Stadium.

The programme has been carefully scheduled during the winter period, which coincides with the soccer off-season, to allow for deep scarification, turf rehabilitation, and sufficient recovery time for the grass surfaces.

These essential maintenance activities will improve the quality, safety, and longevity of the playing fields.
During this period, stadium pitches will be closed to allow for the necessary maintenance and recovery of the turf.

“Although the pitch at Moses Mabhida Stadium will be undergoing rehabilitation, visitors will still be able to enjoy stadium tours, retail outlets, and other facilities throughout the maintenance period,” the City said in a statement.
