Erin Lazarus, a UKZN student, is set to represent the country at the World Blackball Championships in London in October.
THE last six months have been a whirlwind of success for Durban North resident Erin Lazarus.

Last year Lazarus represented SA at the Commonwealth Billiards Championship in Mauritius where she won silver.
This year she competed in the SA Blackball Championships ladies division.

At the competition, Lazarus was awarded number 1 seed (gold medalist), named the best ladies provincial player (KZN gold medalist) and won a bronze medal with the KZN 1 ladies team.
Lazarus is also ranked number one in the SA Ladies Team and is set to compete at the World Pool-Billiard Association (WPA) World Blackball Championships in London in October.
A business science and finance student at UKZN, Lazarus said she is looking forward to the upcoming champs.
“To qualify to represent my country at the World Blackball Championships is a huge honour. I will be competing in the singles and team event. My goal is to try and win the singles championship and win the team event but I know it won’t be easy,” she explained.
“The last two world championships I participated in we (the team) won silver so we would like to go one better this time around. I’m excited for the challenge ahead. Having competed overseas, there are a few nerves but I think being familiar with the team makes it a much more relaxed atmosphere. One thing I’ll be working on is my concentration levels because you end up playing so many games,” she said.
Lazarus has been playing blackball since the age of 15.
