After two long years Extension 18 may finally receive their dustbins – this according to Councillor Anthon Raubenheimer, reporting back on a recent Ward 2 Committee meeting.
Although the project has been backlogged by bureaucracy, around R65 000 has been budgeted for allocating bins to the area. Some time ago Ward Committee member Mrs Ntombela drew a list of deserving residents, and Councillor Raubenheimer said in the meeting that he hopes officials will give the dustbin allocation issue top priority. Street name signs are also due to go up in that area – ‘where the streets have no name’. Concern has also been expressed by residents of Strathmore Park regarding motorists who use Fouchè Street as ‘a racing track’.
Calls have been made to either put in a three-way stop at the intersection of Fouchè and Mkuze Streets, or alternatively erect speed bumps in order to slow down ‘Kyalami drivers’. Good news for Endumeni is that the new Greyhound bus-stop on Biggar Street, Glencoe, is to be a permanent fixture, not only for the duration of construction work on the N11. The municipality is looking at putting up a bus shelter to accommodate those who use the Greyhound, which stops twice a day in Glencoe. Aside from the traffic issues there were complaints expressed regarding long grass on municipal properties in both Dundee and Glencoe, and stray cattle which eat carefully planted-trees and flowers. Councillor Raubenheimer said he hopes municipal officials will consider this, and ensure that a programme is followed to prevent the grass ‘getting out of hand’ in future. On the municipality’s behalf, Callie Carelse of the Technical Services Department promised that he would take the matter up as well.
