Home flooded in Zinnia Road

The gushing rainwater had no outlet due to the clogged gutters and therefore completely flooded a home and partially flooded another home

A heavy downpour on Wednesday afternoon flooded a home in Zinnia Road. A resident who assisted to mop up the calf-deep water said that it was a mammoth task that could have been avoided. The resident said that the gushing rainwater had no outlet due to the clogged gutters and therefore completely flooded a home and partially flooded another home.
The gutters are packed with debris and it is evident that it has not been cleaned in months.

Residents had to pay the price. “At one of the houses the lounge was flooded but the water was cleared out before it could cause more damage. At the other house, the entire place was flooded. We helped from 6pm to 7.30pm to remove the water. Tim Jeebodh also helped us to move the furniture out and clear out the water,” commented the resident. She added that a municipal official came to assess the gutters on Friday but ‘did not do anything.’

“The blocked gutters, which are now filled with water, are a health hazard. It is a breeding ground for mosquitoes and the stench is terrible. The road is also close to two schools and children are returning this week. A manhole in this area is also missing a cover and is also a hazard to people who are passing, someone could fall inside,” said the concerned resident.
