Nquthu Mayor, Emily Molefe, and the Council ‘are thrilled by the performance’ of the municipality during the 2013/2014 financial year.
The Office of the Auditor General has released the audit outcomes for the year ending June 2014 and the Nquthu Municipality has achieved an ‘unqualified audit’ status.
Municipalities and municipal entities are audited annually by an overseeing body established in terms of chapter 9 of RSA constitution.
The municipality has been able to maintain this status as they have kept the record of unqualified audit for the past four years.
This year only 12 municipalities and eight municipal entities managed to obtain a clean audit out of 61 municipalities in the Province.
Mayor Molefe indicated that “there are few issues that the municipality need to tighten screws on, especially those raised as matters of emphasis like electricity losses as the result of an aging infrastructure and illegal connections.”
She continued saying, “this has cost the municipality over R12.5 million since it has lost 12 million kWh”. Another matter highlighted by the Audit General was the non-compliance with legislation. Because of these matters, the municipality and entities have missed out on obtaining a clean audit this year.
Mayor Molefe concluded that “although they have missed the list, they have managed to get fewer matters than the ones raised last year.”
