Discarded refuse on a pavement in First Avenue opposite the Maha Gayatri Temple was a daily eye sore for a resident from the area.
She told the Estcourt News that the garden refuse, which included larges branches and grass cuttings had been left on the pavement more than two months ago.

“I called the municipality to report it but they always say they will collect the dirt but never do,” said the resident. She was especially disappointed that the garden refuse would remain on the pavement during the Easter weekend, saying that many people would be visiting the temple and the dumped refuse would ‘look terrible’.

But Umtshezi Municipality removed the refuse last Wednesday hours after a photo and formal request was sent from the Estcourt News.
Municipal Manager Nonhlanhla Njoko said that there were no records of the complaint.

“Please can the public be aware that once trees are pruned, it should not be dumped on the pavement but rather be disposed of correctly,” added Ms Njoko.
