Imbabazane Local Municipality is making strides to change people’s lives in every way possible. On May 15 Mayor PG Strydom and Speaker Councillor MA Mkhize visited ward five Goodhome (Kwabhakelani area) together with Conlog, a company tasked to install solar powered lights.
The purpose of this visit was to introduce the solar lights installation to the community of KwaBhakelani. This company has identified areas that do not have electricity. Wards five and three are the beneficiaries of this project. According to the Mayor, this is a giant step aimed at helping people not only to have lighting but also to charge batteries, making their life easier. Conlog said these solar lights are user-friendly and residents can utilise it to charge phones and light up the house at no cost. The most important thing is that it does not pose a danger to the user.
The first installation by Conlog was at an elderly woman’s home at KwaBhakelani. She was given instructions on how to use the equipment.
Ward five Councillor M Zulu, Speaker of the local council and the Mayor for Imbabazane Local Municipality Mrs Strydom were there to witness this life changing experience.
An air of expectation and jubilation was everywhere. The elderly resident was so excited and could not contain herself. After switching on the lights, she thanked Imbabazane Local Municipality and Conlog for bringing a change that she never thought would be brought so soon.
Mrs Strydom congratulated the resident for benefiting from this project and pointed out that the installation will help the community, because there will be no need to buy candles and money can be saved.
