Imbabazane MM suspended for irregular payments

The suspension came into effect on April 9 when the Imbabazane council decided to suspend Mr Mkhatshwa for three months

Imbabazane Local Municipality has finally spoken out about the suspension of its former Municipal Manager Mpumelelo Mkhatshwa. The former MM was accused of approving unbudgeted salary increases and back payments paid to some staff members in February and March 2015 and changing some of the staff members’ job titles, which were not approved on the municipal organogram.

Mr Mkhatshwa was granted seven days leave on March 27 so he could prepare a presentation for council in his defence. The suspension came into effect on April 9 when the Imbabazane council decided to suspend Mr Mkhatshwa for three months with full pay pending an investigation.

Word from the municipality’s communication division is that the investigation is underway and is expected to be concluded soon.
Meanwhile Mrs Zakhona Ndlela has been appointed Acting Municipal Manager.
