This weekend, April 9 and 10, have been set aside for the second and final voter registration weekend.  With the IEC having to check all addresses, it is a good idea for voters to make sure if they are still registered at the same voting station.

Just because you have voted at the same station for the past 20 years does not mean that your name is still there.  Check.  The Courier has received numerous calls for would-be voters complaining that their names are no longer on the voters roll at a particular station.

This includes those who have SMS’ed the IEC and receive back a message that they are registered at such and such station but that their address cannot be confirmed.

If your name is not on the roll, come August 3  (the date of the election) you will not be able to vote.

So use this weekend to check!

Who can register?
You must:
•be a South African citizen;
• be at least 16 years old (you can only vote from age 18); and
• have a green, bar-coded ID book; smartcard ID; or valid Temporary Identity Certificate.

How do I know if or where I’m registered?
To check your registration details, you can:
• send an SMS with your ID number to 32810 (R1 per SMS);
• check at your voting station during a registration weekend; or
• check at your local IEC office (next to the Labour Office, Victoria Street, Dundee) during office hours.  You can also click here for more info.

Voting stations will be open for registration from 8am to 5pm both days.
