Mayor says: “My door is open – why do we have to go marching on the municipality and insult people?’

Mayor Richard Mbatha, said the organisers of last weeks ANC Women’s League  ‘did not have the decency to notify the Mayor’s or Speaker’s offices or the acting municipal manager that they wanted us to receive a petition.’

“The arrived at the building and started insulting the acting municipal manager as if to say that he is not a human being like them.

“They claimed to be representing the ANC Women’s League but I am told that the crowd hardly represented women. I am told that the people out there were mainly youth and other unemployed people.”

Mayor Mbatha told the Courier ‘that appears that certain individuals from the ANC chose a ‘rent-a-crowd to come and support them… which I simply do not understand.”

“Should individuals be unhappy about issues, the Mayor’s office has an open door policy. People do not need to create unnecessary instability due to the fact that the leadership of Endumeni has changed.

“Let the people provide us with the space to concentrate on the mandate and deliver services to the community of Endumeni.

“Regarding the issue around Mr Padayachee, according to my understanding, the matter was dealt with in court and was legitimately concluded.

“As Mayor, I personally feel that is there is a grievance, then proper procedures must be followed.”

Mayor Mbatha concluded by calling for peace and stability within the municipality and pleased that all residents should help to ‘fight to make our municipality functional’.
