The Endumeni Municipality is to investigate complaints from Albert Street residents of a foul smell emanating from a truck that parks overnight in the area.
Residents, who contacted the Courier said the driver works for a recycling plant and collects rubbish throughout the day.
At night, he parks on Albert Street with his load on the back of the truck.
And it is these loads that are getting up the noses of households. One resident, who preferred not to be named, said the area is enveloped by a ‘rotten smell’ that comes from the rubbish on the back of the truck. The odour is said to be especially threatening to elderly people and in one case, the condition of a sickly woman who is on an oxygen tank has further deteriorated – allegedly because of the polluted atmosphere.
Complaints have so far been ignored.
However, when the Courier contacted Desi Padayachee, the manager in the Municipal Manager’s office, he said the complaints will be taken up and an investigation set up.
