The wait for consistent refuse removal continues

Municipal Manager Mr Mkhize explained that refuse collection was interrupted because one of the vehicles is being repaired due to serious mechanical issues

It’s another week and the common sight of refuse bags lining the streets, waiting for removal, is again evident.

Residential areas seem to be the hardest hit, with some areas not being serviced for more than four days. The mess is evident as roaming dogs tear open the bags and feast on the waste.

The Estcourt News requested feedback from Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality about the progress of repairs to both refuse compactors.

Previously Municipal Manager Mr Mkhize explained that refuse collection was interrupted because one of the vehicles is being repaired due to serious mechanical issues with the transmission system and the other was pulled off the road after failing a test at the testing station.

As an alternative, the municipality had resorted, he said, to utilising two vans to remove the waste.

Mr Mkhize also commented: “The municipality will ensure that in areas where refuse cannot be collected during this period, loud hailing will be done to inform the public not to take out their waste.

“This will ensure that waste is not scattered by animals and that an unhealthy environment is not created.”

Has this been done in your residential area yet? These questions and an update were requested from the municipality, however no response was received at the time of this post.
