People living in Ladysmith can’t remember when last they saw our Ladysmith Town Clock ticking and showing the correct time.
It has been many months now since the Town Clock has been operational.
It is a landmark and one of the major historical attractions of our town…
People are shaking their heads in wonder at how this situation can just be left to continue. This is not the first time the clock has stopped working either.

Frustrated resident Iqbal Khan says in every city, a Town Clock or a clock tower reflects the pulse of that community – it is the centre of attraction.
“Years ago, before technology impacted on watches, our town was the yardstick international time. The 30-degree East Longitude passes through Ladysmith. Thus, SA time was two hours ahead of Greenwich Meridian (London). For as long as we can remember, our Town Hall clock, that represents SA international time, has been stuck.
“No effort has been made to repair it, which is a disgrace to our town leaders,” says Iqbal.
We are still awaiting comment from the municipality regarding this matter.
