The ANC’s Lucky Khumalo has been voted in as the new Speaker of Endumeni Municipality.
Cllr Khumalo received 7 votes to the IFP’s Cllr Carelse’s 6 votes.

This came as a huge shock to the DA/ EFF/ IFP coalition, who were in the majority.
The coalition then asked for a caucus, which was denied by the speaker. They then left the council chambers.
Cllr Mlotshwa, a member of the IFP, stayed behind in the chamber.
The meeting can continue as there are 7 members in the chamber, which means there is a quorum to elect a Mayor.
