Sibongile youth kick off for unity and change

Sibongile youth take to the field as sport and unity come together in a major community tournament this weekend.

Sport, fun and community spirit will take centre stage in Sibongile on Saturday, November 1, when Sibusiso Sikhakhane, an MK Party member of the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature, hosts a large-scale youth soccer tournament.

Reviving sport and hope

Sikhakhane said the event aims to revive sporting codes across the Umzinyathi region while giving young people positive alternatives to drugs and alcohol.

“As the MKP, we want to bring back all forms of sport to our communities and focus on our youth,” he explained.
“We will make sure they are supported and off the streets. Unity is important.”

The tournament promises plenty of excitement, with teams from across the region competing for top honours and prizes.

The winning side will walk away with full kits, trophies, bibs and soccer balls. Cash prizes include R2,500 for the champions, R1,500 for the runners-up, and R1,000 for third place. A Man of the Match award will also recognise standout performances on the day.

Sikhakhane encouraged residents to show their support: “This is about more than just football — it’s about building pride, unity and opportunity among our youth.”
