Mandela Day has been put forward as a way to remember his legacy and promote the value of selflessness he stood for.

Nelson Mandela gave up 67 years of his life in service of the belief that democracy is a right that all South Africans deserve.

Mandela Day has been put forward as a way to remember his legacy and promote the value of selflessness he stood for. It was in the face of this, that I was shocked to see how many people use the word “I” and “me” in their Facebook status updates everyday (including Mandela Day).

Of course, we want to know your status. But every now and then we should be more aware to use a few more “we” and “others”. Of course, this has nothing to with your status, but a state of mind and life-focus on things other than ourselves.

Go into the world with the understanding that you are only you because of the people and world around you.
