While the Gaza Strip continues to be bombarded by the Israeli Defence Force; the civilian death toll is unacceptable, and an alarming number of casualties have been children, and women.
Thousands of people across the world have staged protest marches in solidarity with the Palestinian people. South Africans have added their voices in larger cities and have joined in this call.
Protests have been staged in Cape Town, Johannesburg, and Durban.
Political parties such as the ANC and the EFF as well as trade unions COSATU and NUMSA have stood firmly in support of the cause of the Palestinian people.
The ANC has gone further, and called on its branch members across South Africa to join in solidarity protests. On Friday, The Office of the ANC Chief Whip released a statement wherein it said: “As the ANC in Parliament, we stand unapologetically with the people of Palestine and pro-Palestinian campaigners in an endeavour to exert pressure on Israel’s government to comply with the UN Security Council resolutions and stop its killings and gross persecution of Palestinian people.”
In light of these events, the Palestinian Solidarity Campaign would like to invite you, and your colleagues, to join us in a peaceful protest march in the uThukela District, on Saturday in Ladysmith. As Mandela Month draws to a close, we echo his words, and share in his sentiment:
