We do not need a politician to tell us to get along

So how do we get along?

Someone spoke about social cohesion the other day. Apparently there are workshops you can go to and explain to some highly paid facilitator how awful you feel because you are black or white or otherwise and how no one understands you and everyone hates you. It is fun.

Afterwards, everyone has a cup of tea and a cookie and you start wandering who the hell writes this script.

People these days are so politically correct that there are clowns in places such as Birmingham (the UK one) where local politicians want to ban Christmas and anything associated with that for fear of upsetting those who do not celebrate this Christian holiday.

Crazy stuff. Perhaps politicians like that should be banned.

So how do we get along? Well, we can start by acting normal. Apparently this is what parents used to teach their children (a bit like Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young) and also schools also try to do this – Bishop Xaba would certainly approve.

If someone greets you, greet back. Do not push anyone out of the way. Do not barge your way past people. Sort of manners – remember those?

Be considerate. Do not play your music – no matter what brand it is – so loud you are going to pee people off who may just not want to listen to what you are listening too.
If you have a party, clean up the mess.

You are not the only pebble on the beach – regardless of what your mother told you.
Have fun. A great example of this was the Old Dundee Town Market on Beaconsfield Street the other day.

A Boereorkes strummed guitars and played ‘squeeze boxes’ while an Indian dance troupe entertained in the street, artists and crafts people of every colour showcased their talent and money – which we are told has no colour – was gladly traded.

People mixed who would not have normally mixed. This is what small town living is all about. Dundee/Glencoe etc. are small enough for everyone to know and respect each other without any politician having to hold a workshop to explain that.

The towns are also small enough to be great examples to the rest of this poor country.

What we need now is, of course, closed circuit television cameras to help curb the terrible crime rate that has rocketed in recent months.

So sad that goodwill can be undone by the minority of criminals who are out there plying their terrible trade.
