How can you protect your organisation from fraud and theft?

Labour Law expert Sonja Vorster shares a few things to look out for concerning fraud and theft

1. Organisations need to realise that on many occasions, the perpetrators of theft and fraud are the most trusted employees – the ones you think you cannot do without.

2. No organisation’s systems are so airtight that they can never be the victim of fraud and theft. There is always a way, and a way is always found.

3. Basic systems and procedures are overlooked and not followed, and checks and double-checks are not in place.
4. Friendships develop and the line between employer and employee starts getting blurred.

5. A false sense of security is often created, as organisations think books are audited and nothing alarming comes to the forefront. Unless an in-depth physical audit is done on site, which is costly, fraud can go undetected for years.
