Sawubona, Nambithi! How was everybody’s week? I hope it was good. I’m getting tired of all the wind. The other day at work, I was driving around the premises and before I knew it, I was stuck.
The wind blew a heap of sand together and unknowingly, I drove right into it. The wheels of my wheelchair were spinning like a record player and I had to call the AA (my colleagues) to dig me out. But otherwise, my new wheelchair (that I named LekkerNice) drives like a dream. I’m getting better at driving it by the minute and soon they’ll offer me a role in The Fast & The Furious! Kidding, or not? I was so proud when I saw my old school (Bergville Primary School) and Monument’s school choir performing on TV. It made me think back to my days in the choir, singing bass.
I heard that the army was deployed to the Cape Flats to curb the violence. It’s a great idea, but more locations around the country need something similar, especially the rural areas. If we have the army patrolling, crime might decrease. 29% of our population is unemployed; it’s a great way to get that number down by getting more recruits. Are you guys going to the Berg Show? I’m kind of excited to see Locnville performing live. In my teens, their music was very popular. Now I know how some people feel when they see The Rolling Stones or Lynyrd Skynyrd performing after so many years! Interesting fact: Locnville consists of twin brothers Brian and Andrew Chaplin. Their grandfather was the legendary performer, Charlie Chaplin. Performing is in their blood!
The Springboks are getting ready for the World Cup. On Saturday, they narrowly beat Argentina 24-18 after making wholesale changes to the team, giving fringe players a chance to stake a claim for the World Cup.
I don’t think they were bad, just inexperienced. Now Rassie Erasmus has to choose his 31-player squad. Not many people know this, but when I was at university, my residence formed a rugby team with another residence to play in the residence rugby leagues (there were a few) and I helped a bit with the coaching and the recruiting. It’s not an easy task choosing a squad and getting the balance right. Let’s hope he does. Have a great week! Hamba kahle.
