MUST READ: Monica Mostert is a star on the rise

Currently she is recording her first album, which she hoped would be released early in 2018. The album would then be followed by a unique and special Zulu album.

Too often people dream big and then leave it at that, a dream.

However, 25-year-old Newcastillian, Monica Johnson Mostert this was not going to apply in her case.

From the tender age of seven, Monica’s main goal in life was to be a singing superstar.

From singing in the shower to performing on stage with big names such Bok van Blerk, Arno Jordaan and many more, Monica is finally living her dream.

“I have always enjoyed singing, but I only started considering it as a career earlier this year, I must admit its been good so far,” she said.

Before embracing the music industry, Monica pursued a career as a school teacher for three years.

Since deciding to pursue music full time, Monica signed her first contract at Global FM, this helped her gain public exposure by playing her songs on numerous radio stations.

Currently she is recording her first album, which she hoped would be released early in 2018. The album would then be followed by a unique and special Zulu album.

“The album I am working on at the moment is somewhat Afrikaans and English country, and will be suitable for the entire family to enjoy.”

When this talented star is not performing on stage, she is seen raising her two sons Zian (4) and Zako (10 months) with her husband of four years, Cornelius Mostert.

“I am very blessed with my family. My husband has always supported me in my music, and I include my sons in my music journey. They regularly accompany me to my shows.”

When asked how she would describe her journey as a performer and a mother, Monica said it had been amazing.

“Being a mom and an artist has not been that difficult because of the fact that I involve my boys in my career. Zian loves it when I sing. He will sing and dance along with me, so hopefully he will follow in my footsteps one day,” she laughed.

Monica admitted getting into the music industry was not easy, and said it took a lot of hard work and perseverance.

“I don’t think people understand how difficult it really is. There are a lot of people who sing and perform, and one can only hope people enjoy your music more than others. I do, however, believe the more shows you do, the more people will notice you. I always say that as long as people enjoy my music, I will keep on performing for them.”

Monica’s goal in the music industry is to hopefully perform on ‘Afrikaans is Groot’ and join the stage with world renowned artists such as her musical role model, Juanita du Plessis.

Her advice to young and aspiring musicians is to always dream big and to never stop believing in themselves.

“Never give up and never throw away your dream, because everything happens with time. People are going to judge you and say bad things about you, but it’s up to you to turn your back on them. I always believed those who leave everything in God’s hand will eventually see God’s hands in everything.”
