One of the best-known contemporary Christian bands of the late 90s and early 2000s was the English band, Delirious? It delivered some inspiring hits in its tenure as a band and was quite popular on playlists at the time.
The band had a big selection of hits and, combined with their musical talent, really emphasised their message to a great extent.
Delirious? consisted of Martin Smith on vocals and guitar; Stu Garrard on guitar and backing vocals; Jon Thatcher on bass guitar; Tim Jupp on keys and piano and Stew Smith on drums and percussion.
Honourable Mentions: “Did you Feel the Mountains Tremble?”, “Lord You Have My Heart”, “All The Way”, “Follow” and “Gravity”.
5. Deeper
This song is all about giving everything to Jesus and getting into an even more intimate, personal relationship with our Saviour. The following verse exemplifies this: “I wanna go deeper but I don’t know how to swim.
“I wanna be meeker, but have you seen this old earth? I wanna fly higher but these arms won’t take me there.”
The chorus is one of the top aspects of this song. It establishes what a relationship with the Lord is and Smith yearns for more of it: “And the wonder of it all Is that I’m living just to fall More in love with You.” The track also has brilliant rhythm and will undoubtedly put you in a fantastic mood, right from the start.

4. History Maker
The synth elements in the intro already set this song up as a classic and are some of the best aspects of this defining track from Delirious?
Smith opens with a rhetorical question that he then answers with whole-hearted assurance: “Is it true today that when people pray, cloudless skies will break, kings and queens will shake? Yes, it’s true and I believe it. I’m living for You.”
The song has some U2-like undertones and the extra guitar elements and drum patterns exentuate with notion. Garrard’s work on the guitar in the chorus and the bridge is fantastic and accentuates this perfectly.
The chorus is brilliantly delivered, full of hope and glory: “I’m gonna be a history maker in this land. I’m gonna be a speaker of truth to all mankind. I’m gonna stand, I’m gonna run Into Your arms, into Your arms again.”

3. Rain Down
This track starts with a catchy guitar riff and drumbeat before the drums from Smith and the verse kick in as a precursor to the Holy Spirit-inspired chorus: “Rain down, can you hear the earth is singing? Rain down, my heart is dry but still, I’m singing. Rain down, rain it down on me.” The theme of the message is love, abundance and renewal and these are things that everyone on earth needs. The bridge is terrific and emphasises the points as the instruments take a break, only for Smith and gang’s vocals to add a real sing-along element to the song.

2. I Could Sing of Your Love Forever
“Over the mountains and the sea. Your river runs with love for me and I will open up my heart and let the Healer set me free. I’m happy to be in the truth and I will daily lift my hands. For I will always sing of when Your love came down.”
This is how this brilliant six-minute track from Delirious? starts. Smith delivers these potent lyrics against the backdrop of a sweet acoustic melody. This then continues into the chorus with the added female vocals and organ creating a full-bodied sound.
The mellow mood of this track is what gives it its appeal. It is a song you can slowly get into and enjoy and the beautiful chorus drags you into the song: “I could sing of Your love forever.”

1. Majesty
“Majesty” is one of this band’s best tracks and hits home with the brilliant acoustic guitar and violin elements the song is based on. The violin lead is refreshing and adds something extra to the song. The chorus is beautifully delivered with Smith’s voice having a soothing, uplifting effect.
The song focuses on honouring and glorifying the King of Kings who came to rescue us just as we are: “Singing Majesty, Majesty. Your grace has found me just as I am. Empty-handed, but alive in Your hands.”
