Tazmin Brits set to play her 50th T20 game in Potch
Opening batter, Tazmin Brits, is set to play her 50th T20 International for the Proteas at the J.B. Marks Oval.
The Proteas Women opening batter, Tazmin Brits, will most likely (if picked) play her 50th T20 international match at the J.B. Marks Oval today (Saturday, 30 March) against Sri Lanka in front of her friends and family.
“Firstly, I’m hoping I play, but I’m very happy that if I do, my 50th game is here in Potch. My home crowd with my mom and I’ve got a lot of family members also coming. Hopefully not just that, but scoring a 50 will be great as well,” she stated.
The script could not have been written better for Brits, who started her cricketing career in Potchefstroom with the North West Dragons before moving to the SWD Garden Route Badgers in recent years.
Brits is now a senior member of the Proteas setup and will look to help her side take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three matches T20 International Series. The Proteas Women completed an easy 97-run win in the first T20 in Benoni on Wednesday, 27 March.

“Momentum is always good, and with the World Cup coming up in September, it’ll be very good for us if we can maybe do a 3-0 win. If we can look at doing that, that’ll be great for the team,” stated Brits.
The Proteas will also keep one eye on the upcoming 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup in Bangladesh during September and October in their series against Sri Lanka. A good series result against Sri Lanka will go a long way in building confidence.
Brits remarked that one of the reasons for her getting to the 50 cap mark is vested in her hard working attitude.
“Work ethic is a massive thing. Your contribution to the team is very important. We never want to be mediocre. I really want to be the best and help our team be the best. We want to win World Cups, not just series, at the end of the day.”
