
A Fast-food manager (31) at a mall in Potchefstroom has been accused of raping a teenage employee (19) while on duty.
Colonel Adelé Myburg, spokesperson for the police, says the incident took place on Friday, 17 January and it is alleged that the manager called the employee into his office where he proceeded to rape her.
“The incident was reported to the police and the suspect was taken into custody. Upon further investigation it was discovered that the suspect is a foreign national and that his passport has expired.”
The suspect appeared before the Potchefstroom magistrate court on Monday, 20 January. The case was postponed to 29 January for formal bail application.
Outraged residents and members of the community protested in front of the magistrates court as well as at the mall on Monday. Members of the community as well as members of various political parties called upon the people of Potchefstroom to protest at the court on the 29th of January.
