With the recent wet weather conditions in North West, combined with the festive season and the increased number of holiday travellers, it is also the season when the number of accidents drastically increases.

Potchefstroom already saw two accidents recently, one on the N12 near the Mooirivier Mall and another on the R501 near Boskop Mall.

Christiaan Haefele from Mooirivier Berskerming gives a few tips on how to stay safe on long trips during the festive season:

• Check tyres, lights, and brakes before leaving.
• Pack water, snacks, and a first aid kit.
• Share your route and ETA with a friend or family member.
• Rest well before driving as fatigue causes thousands of accidents each year.
