Teenager set house alight after argument with granny

A 16-year-old girl set the family home alight after an argument with her 61-year-old grandmother in Ikageng last week.

According to Ikageng SAPS spokesperson, Const. Kelebogile Trom, the teenager locked herself inside the house after the argument and set it alight.
“When she could no longer withstand the billowing smoke, she escaped through a window. The neighbours helped to extinguish the fire and then they called the police.
“The girl was taken to Potchefstroom Hospital for observation, but no one was injured,” said Trom.
She urges parents to take responsibility for disciplining their children.
“If a child’s behaviour is problematic, they must seek professional help and not let them get away with the crime,” she says.
