A schoolgirl assaulted a fellow-learner with a stun gun in Ratanang Street near Seiphemelo Secondary School in Kanana last Friday.
According to WO Mohutsiwa, the SAPS spokesperson, the 15-year-old victim said in her statement that she and her cousin were on their way home when a group of girls approached them.
“A girl of the same age took out a long stun gun and shocked her on the stomach. She then started hitting her on the forehead and saying she was pregnant,” he said. Mohutsiwa says an argument broke out and the bully struck the victim on the forehead with her knee while she was in a kneeling position. The complainant sustained injuries to her forehead and stomach.
According to Mohutsiwa, the suspect lives in Kanana and is known to the police. He expressed shock at the incident which, as far as could be established, was the first of its kind in the township. “It is very disturbing to know that schoolchildren carry dangerous weapons to school. I urge parents to check their children’s bags before they go to school.
“The SAPS discourages this kind of behaviour in our schools and those found guilty of assaulting other children at school will be brought to book.
