In a surprise announcement last Thursday, two prominent DA councillors from Promosa, Dawie Schoeman and Nimrod Fransman, revealed that they had defected to the ANC.

NW ANC chairperson Supra Mahumapelo, NW regional chairperson Itumeleng Mosala and treasurer of the ANC Women’s league Maite Nkoana-Mashabane all welcomed the two with open arms.

Fransman claims that white DA councillors are racist and says he was ill-treated and used by the DA while still in the party. He alleges that the party obtained some of his old criminal records that can only be accessed by an attorney and deems this to be unlawful. He says he has been cleared of the charges and is clean.
“Thank God for opening my eyes. They are using our black people in Ikageng and Promosa. We are the workers. The DA was not represented in Promosa, I came with the changes.
I will be moving to the ANC with my supporters,” he said. Schoeman says he has had sleepless nights and told himself he must take a decision and resign from the DA and join the ANC.
The DA provincial spokesperson, Nicolize van der Walt says Nimrod Fransman was not a member of the DA anymore when he joined the ANC. “His membership was suspended on 19 July 2016 due to illegal and unethical conduct. We are, therefore, not going to entertain his unfounded allegations against the DA.
Ours is the only party in South Africa where you must sign an anti-racism pledge before you can become a member,” she said.
She added that Dawie Schoeman resigned from the DA on 21 July 2016. “He was, therefore, also not a member of the DA anymore,” she said.
