On Friday 29 July, the lives of the entire Gr. 8 group of girls at BA Seobi Secondary school were changed for the better.
BA Seobi is the first high school in Potchefstroom to receive the Subz Reusable Pads – sanitary pads that can be washed and reused and last for up to 5 years.

The Potch Mooi Rotary Anns, in collaboration with Renue Clinic Potchefstroom, launched the Keep a Girl in School project earlier this year. These phenomenal women held a fundraiser evening in May to purchase these Subz packs for the 163 Gr. 8 girls of BA Seobi. On the same evening, people donated handbags, which were filled with goodies like lipstick, creams, and a pack of sanitary pads and given to the matric girls of BA Seobi.

“The aim is to give these pads to Gr. 8s and, since they last for five years, the girls will have no reason to miss a day of school again,” says Charlotte van Alphen, the brain behind the project.

Because a pack of sanitary pads can cost about R30, many school girls have to stay at home once a month because they cannot afford them. Subz will make sure that they don’t have to worry about “that time of the month” for the next half decade.
