The Madibeng Primary School Gr. 10 learner, also known as DJ Zawandii, lives in Ikageng and is the province’s youngest DJ.
Tebogo Moswetsi, the owner and manager of Team Spider Entertainment adopted him after his dad passed away. According to him, DJ Zawandii was born in Sasolburg in 2007 and moved to Potchefstroom in 2010. This is when he fell in love with music.
When Tebogo saw the boy’s love of house and hip-hop music, he bought musical equipment and started organising small events for him.
‘DJ Zawandii started his DJ career when he was 8 years old and played at kids’ parties. His audience grew and he started playing at outdoor events and national festivals. Lady Ginja, a popular South African DJ, showed him the ropes of deejaying. Presently, he is being assisted by DJ Frisco who is also part of the Team Spider Entertainment music stable.’
The young DJ has performed in Potchefstroom, Mahikeng, Taung, Christiana, Welkom and other places in the Free State. He always performs in front of thousands in the audience and at sold-out events like Tlokwe Chillaz. He is accompanied on stage by his MC Thabo ‘Torroskii the MC’ Moswetsi. Tebogo’s goal is to enter the young DJ into ‘SA’s Got talent’ because, he says, he is one talented boy and that is sure to take South Africa by storm.
‘He practises every day; he is in demand for children’s parties in Ikageng almost every weekend. I always ensure that his school work comes first and I regularly check on his progress,’ he assures.
Mpho wants to follow this career when he grows up and plans to enrol for a course in sound engineering when he finishes his schooling.
He says he is taking his education seriously and his favourite subject is Mathematics.
One day he wants to be a superstar like his music idol, Hip Hop star Cassper Nyovest.
