‘One shebeen owner was issued with a fine of R5 000. This was not the first time that he had broken the law. We warned him that a case docket would be opened the next time and that he would be charged and have a criminal record.
‘We will continue to fight illegal shebeens in the area,’ warned  Sgt. Kelebogile Trom, the police spokesperson.

Police continue to clamp down on illegal shebeens and taverns in an effort to curb the alcohol abuse that is rife in Ikageng. According to Trom , these watering holes are mushrooming in the townships, giving rise to social ills like domestic violence, murder, robbery and rape within the community.
