Foundation takes a stand against abuse

The Pearl Mashila Foundation, a non-profit organisation, has announced that it will be hosting an awareness campaign against the sexual abuse of women and children in the community.

The police stats released last Tuesday have revealed that 124 rapes were reported in Ikageng and 78 in Potchefstroom in the last financial year.

Despite these alarming statistics, no protest march against the scourge has been forthcoming from the community until recently.
The Pearl Mashila Foundation, a non-profit organisation, has announced that it will be hosting an awareness campaign against the sexual abuse of women and children in the community.
The founder and chairperson, by the same name, says this form of abuse affects us all, whether it has happened to us directly or someone close to us. ‘We, as women, are not safe while these predators are still out there; you can’t really identify them as they come in all shapes and sizes.’
‘Therefore, we are standing up as an organisation to say enough is enough. We are asking the community to stand with us and join in the march that will be taking place on the N12 in Potchefstroom on 9 December 2017,’ said Mashila.
She humbly requests funding, water, food, caps, T-shirts and transport because they will be moving to three different locations in Potchefstroom.
The organisation plans to hold a demonstration in different areas including town, Ikageng and the extensions.
Any local companies and community members willing to contribute to this initiative can contact the founder on 076 357 4871/062 146 4604 or email her on pearl.mashila@yahoo.com
