The North West Dragons will look to get back to winning ways this coming weekend when they host Northern Cape in a Sunfoil 3-Day Cup match at Senwes Park from 2-4 November.

The Dragons are yet to win a match in this year’s competition having drawn their match against Gauteng at the Wanderers and going down to Kwa-Zulu Natal by 6 wickets in Durban at Kingsmead.

This match against Northern Cape will however be the first Sunfoil Series match this season at Senwes Park and the Dragons will look to use home conditions to their advantage. Another positive for the Dragons is the form of their top and middle order batsman with Janneman and André Malan as well as Marques Ackerman scoring big in the first two matches. Ackerman’s brilliant 109 off 114 balls against KZN was one of the highlights in NW’s second innings total of 188 all out in a losing effort.

Odds are that the Senwes Park batting strip will be more suited to run scoring and a few big scores are on the cards.

Historically, North West has had the beating of the Northern Cape in the past and the previous encounter between the two teams in Kimberley this year ended with a 6 wicket win for the Dragons.

Northern Cape’s Driaan Bruwer has been their best batsman this season and he will be looking to continue his form this weekend in Potchefstroom. He is currently the third highest run-scorer in the competition with 278 runs at an average of 69.50.

The top run-scorer for North West is Janneman Malan with 180 runs at an average of 60.

Brady Barends head the wicket column for North West with 10 wickets at an average of 18.3 and a strike rate of 38.6.

The North West Dragons under captain Jonty Rapulana will be favourites to take the win this weekend and based on paper will have too much firepower for Northern Cape.

The match is scheduled to start at 09:30 tomorrow.
