PAWS (Potchefstroom Animal Welfare Society) discovered a stray female Shar Pei at the Potchefstroom Country Club on Wednesday, 26 December near the 17th hole.
The dog was found to be suffering from severe starvation and dehydration with her bones clearly visible underneath her skin.
The local Potchefstroom community has already given support and care since a photo of the dog was posted by Sharon Pyburn on the Potch Pets group on Facebook yesterday (27 December.)
The reaction on social media was also one of disgust and unbelief at how the dog had been nearly starved to death.
The majority of users on social media also opened their hearts with donations in the form of food, water and other financial means. Some Potchefstroomers have also visited PAWS to interact with the malnourished dog to speed up her recovery back to full health.
