Four years of alleged rape came to light when a 13-year-old girl reported to the police that her stepfather has been violating her repeatedly.
According to Sgt Kelebogile Trom, the police spokesperson, the alleged abuse started in 2016 when the family was living outside Potchefstroom.
“The complainant alleges that she was living with her mother, stepfather and younger sister. When her mother was not home, the man would tell the child that it was cold and she should sleep with him to keep warm. He allegedly undressed and raped her,” reported Trom.
When the family moved to Promosa, the suspect allegedly continued to abuse the teen and raped her on several occasions when her mother was not home.
“The girl says her stepfather always warned her that it must stay between them and promised to give her R200. She tried to tell her mother, but the woman did not believe her and said he was a good man.
“According to the complainant, the man never stopped and committed the crime when she came back from school. The suspect has not been arrested,” says Trom.
