District distributes water tanks to boost hygiene

Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality hands over Jojo water tanks across district.

The Dr. Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality is handing over water tanks across the district.

According to Xolani Mndaweni, district spokesperson, the district executive mayor, Alderman Barei Mosiane-Segotso recently handed over 58 × 5000 litres water tanks across the three local municipalities within the district.

This is part of the government’s effort in the fight against Covid-19, and aims to boost hygiene in areas where water is scarce.

“The tanks will be installed and linked to water sources which will enable an ongoing water supply,” said Mndaweni.

In a statement, Alderman Mosiane-Segotso said that the district’s concern is the health of the people.

“Access to water will enable people to stay at home, and wash their hands with soap or sanitizer,” she said.

The water tanks will be distributed based on a water assessment need conducted by the Department of Water and Sanitation.

J.B. Marks local municipality will receive 40 tanks, City of Matlosana local municipality will get 10 and eight tanks will be distributed to the Maquassi Hills local municipality.

Mndaweni further stated that The Department of Water and Sanitation is the agent behind the nationwide programme, and is working closely with district and metro municipalities.

According to Mndaweni, upon receiving the water tanks at the J.B. Marks license department, the acting executive mayor, Gerald Modise assured the district executive mayor and the community of J.B. Marks that the water tanks will be installed where they can make a positive impact on the hygiene and overall health of community members.
