According to William Maphosa, Municipal spokesperson, there is a new way of bank fraud where a text is sent to people informing them that they have been approved for the R350 that’s part of the Government’s Covid-19 invention fund, further reasurring people the amount will be credited to them.
In the text, it requests the receiver to update their bank account details by providing the account name, date of birth, Bank Verification Number(BVN), cellphone number and the card’s serial numbers.
Maphosa urges people to be careful and not give out bank details to anyone via text message. Further mentioning that the government will not request such information via SMS.
