Over the years, many have been killed or harmed because of their sexual orientation or gender identity. Social Justice hosted an awareness event to coincide with Pride Month on Saturday, 12 June. Thabiso Mogapi (49), the founder of Social Justice, says they wanted to remember those who had passed on, celebrate others and embrace diversity and the inclusion of the LGBTIQ+ society.
Social Justice is an organisation that advocates for marginalised sexual minority groups by encouraging access to rights, equality and human dignity.
“As so many murders are related to hate crimes, it is important for us to remember those we have lost while creating awareness,’’ he said. “We want people to accept and understand the LGBTQI+ community. One thing we lack is inclusion and it is important to us that we change that.”

They embarked on a convoy from Devils Corner in Ikageng and lapped the stadium, concluding with speeches and a memorial service at a park.
“It was incredible seeing men, who are regarded as perpetrators, involved throughout the event,” Thabiso added.
“Our aim is for the general community to learn about the rights of the LGBTIQ+ community and their existence within the J.B. Marks Municipality,” says Thabiso
