Inspired by her own experience of poverty, 22-year-old Mokgosi Lerato from Extension 7 in Ikageng would like to give back to those in need.
“I don’t have much to give on my own and would like to ask the community to assist with food, clothes, school uniforms, stationery and sanitary pads,” she said.
Mokgosi explains that although she comes from a poor background, having to sleep on an empty stomach, she would always help those around her with the little she had.
“I always felt it wasn’t enough and that I needed to reach out to more people,” she explained.
“Now that we are approaching winter, I thought it would be the perfect time to assist children in need,” she said.
Mokgosi aims to have collected enough items to hand out. But she desperately needs the assistance of the community.
“There is no exact date that we will give out donations but I hope to do so by June, depending on the donations,” she said.
“All I want is to see every child in our community going to school with shoes on their feet and food in their tummies,” she added.’
