Cars take a dangerous dip in Promosa ‘swimming pool’

Following the recent downpours, the potholes have got worse and a big “swimming pool” has formed in the middle of the road.

Used by many commuters and pedestrians, Robert Avenue in Promosa is infested with potholes. It also happens to run next to the Promosa dam, which tends to flood during heavy rains.

Following the recent downpours, the potholes have got worse and a big “swimming pool” has formed in the middle of the road.
“Whenever it floods here, it is completely unsafe. We can’t walk here, and neither can anyone pass with cars,” Lineo Lichaba, a passer-by said.

According to Lineo, drivers often turn back once they see how deep the potholes are.
Linda Abrahams, who has been living in the area for almost five years, added that the issue has also discouraged some Promosa learners from walking to Potchefstroom Secondary School.
“This is an indicator of how the municipality feels about us as a community,” Linda said. “This place is dangerous.

“We are tired of complaining and pleading with the municipality. The municipal vehicles also use the road, and they have no urgency to fix the hazard,” Linda lamented.
According to the residents, there is no drainage system in the street and no support to stop the dam water from flooding the road after showers.

“This issue is of great inconvenience to the community because most of us are pedestrians; we are often forced to change direction,” Lerothodi Moabi, another resident, added.
The residents plead with the municipality to prioritise the hazard. “We are also asking for better maintenance of the street and possibly a drainage system to keep the street from being flooded,” Lerothodi added.
The Herald asked the municipality for comment but had received none by the time of going to print.
