Municipality acquires generators to help alleviate water shortages

Two Generators have been delivered and one of them has been commissioned for now. We hope that by the end of this week all three needed Generators would have been commissioned to assist with pumping of water during the load shedding periods.

There has been an improvement in the service delivery of water to affected residents in Ikageng this week.

Last week protestors blocked the N12 near Ikageng due to water shortages and poor service delivery. Police were at the scene to monitor the situation, whilst JB Marks executive mayor, Gaba Ka Qhele, also spoke to residents on Thursday, 7 July, regarding the water shortage issue.

JB Marks Municipality acting communications officer, Jeanette Tshite, stated that there is a huge improvement on bulk water storage and delivery to residents as compared to the past two weeks. This is due to the procurement of two generators to assist during load shedding periods.

“Most areas within our Municipality that were affected by the situation of the past weeks are receiving water from their taps. Two Generators have been delivered and one of them has been commissioned for now. We hope that by the end of this week all three needed Generators would have been commissioned to assist with pumping of water during the load shedding periods. That needs to happen so as to keep our pumping routine stable,” she explained.

The municipality also emphasises that the community should still use water sparingly in order to manage water levels within reservoirs.

“We would continue to implement restrictions between 22:00 in the evening till 04:00 in the morning on daily basis, in order to keep our reservoirs above 50 % to avoid total water shortages. We still apologize for all the inconvenience that the water shortages have caused, we do all we can as the JB Marks Local Municipality in the best interest of our communities,” stated Tshite.
