SPN Phiri Disability Support Group celebrated Casual Day at the Madiba Banquet Halls on Saturday, 3 September. The event aimed to raise awareness of disabled children and raise funds while enjoying performances during the day. According to Mirriam Phiri, the group was founded to create a place where those from special schools could go after matriculating. “There are few to no institutions available for our disabled children after they have finished matric, and these institutions are usually fully booked,” Phiri explained. “It is, therefore, essential for us as a group to create a place that will keep them busy and safe even after they have matriculated.”
Phiri extended a huge thank you to the children, parents and stakeholders involved in making the day possible.
